Game On: The Evolution of Video Games Exhibition

Published on 28 August 2024 at 21:58

With back to school looming we finished the last few days of summer visiting family in Bedfordshire. We hadn’t planned on anything exciting until I came across info of a gaming exhibition at The Stockwood Discovery Centre in Luton. This sounded right up the boys street and although I’m not a gamer myself I was known to play super Nintendo as a kid!

Mason was very Interested to find out how they gamed in the “olden days” so with no real expectations, off we went!

On arriving at the discovery centre I could not believe I didn’t know about this place before! Because of our family connection we have been frequent visitors to Bedfordshire for 16 years so we've clearly been missing out! It’s a proper hidden gem which offers captivating gardens, engaging interactive exhibitions, and Europe's largest carriage collection! It also has a scenic outdoor play area for children, and stunning walled gardens.
Admission is free, with exception of visiting exhibitions and events like this one.

The Exhibition

On entering the exhibition you are taken on a journey from retro arcade games up to date. The experience is completely immersive so you get to play all these games on display! Watching my son who is of the touch screen generation get his head around a joy stick and pressing buttons was highly amusing! We brought my mother in law along and she was straight to the super Nintendo. For once Nan knew how to play better than him which he loved!!

There is also some fun photo op spots in the style of space invaders and super Mario which were lots on fun.

We finished off the experience having our photo taken and created into a Tomb Raider poster!

It’s was a wonderful walk down memory lane and it’s amazing to see how far technology has come. We highly recommend!

The exhibition runs until 01/09/2024 - Booking On line essential. Sessions at 11.30 - 1.30 & 3.30£3.50 per person plus £1 booking fee
